Bryukhonenko (18901960) fue un científico soviético durante la etapa de Stalin. Su labor y estudios fueron vitales para el desarrollo de las operaciones a corazón abierto en Rusia y fue uno de los líderes en el Instituto de Cirugía Experimental donde el profesor A. A. Vishnevsky consiguió realizar la primera operación a corazón abierto en personas en 1957. Sin embargo Bryukhonenko será siempre recordado por su "autoejector" una primitiva máquina que realizaba la función del corazón y pulmones, la cual fue utilizada en una serie de experimentos con perros a finales de los años 30 pudiéndose ver en este video como con dicho "artilugio" mantienen palpitando un corazón fuera del cuerpo y los pulmones bombeando. En la película "Experiments in the Revival of Organisms" se muestran algunos de estos experimentos entre los cuales uno es especialmente escalofriante. Un perro es decapitado con la intención de mantener con vida su cabeza aisladamente y sin mediar su cuerpo, el animal parece estar despierto y reaccionar ante los estímulos sonoros, visuales y táctiles. El perro por supuesto murió posteriormente. En la parte final del video puede observarse como un can tras morir y tener todas sus constantes vítales detenidas es devuelto a la vida por el equipo de Bryukhonenko quien fue condecorado por el Premio Lenin a título postumo.
