Fri, 09 Jan 2009 01:23:59 -0800 by MelodeonJohn

In a station in the city a British soldier stoodTalking to the people there if the people wouldSome just stared in hatred, and others turned in painAnd the lonely British soldier wished he was back home againCome join the British Army! said the posters in his townSee the world and have your fun come serve before the CrownThe jobs were hard to come by and he could not face the doleSo he took his country's shilling and enlisted on the rollFor there was no fear of fighting, the Empire long was lostJust ten years in the army getting paid for being bossedThen leave a man experienced a man who's made the gradeA medal and a pension some mem'ries and a tradeThen came the call for Ireland as the call had come beforeAnother bloody chapter in an endless civil warThe priests they stood on both sides the priests they stood behindAnother fight in Jesus's name the blind against the blindThe soldier stood between them between the whistling stonesAnd then the broken bottles that led to broken bonesThe petrol bombs that burnt his hands the nails that pierced his skinAnd wished that he had stayed at home surrounded by his kinThe station filled with people the soldier soon was boredBut better in the station than where the people warredThe room filled up with mothers with daughters and with sonsWho stared with itchy fingers at the soldier and his gunA yell of fear a screech of brakes the shattering of glassThe window of the station broke to let the package passA scream came from the mothers as they ran towards the doorDragging their children crying from the bomb upon the floorThe soldier stood and could not move his gun he could not useHe knew the bomb had seconds and not minutes on the fuseHe could not run and pick it up and throw it in the streetThere were far too many people there too many running feetTake cover! yelled the soldier, Take cover for your livesAnd the Irishmen threw down their young and stood before their wivesThey turned towards the soldier their eyes alive with fearFor God's sake save our children or they'll end their short lives hereThe soldier moved towards the bomb his stomach like a stoneWhy was this his battle God why was he aloneHe lay down on the package and he murmured one farewellTo those at home in England to those he loved so wellHe saw the sights of summer felt the wind upon his browThe young girls in the city parks how precious were they nowThe soaring of the swallow the beauty of the swanThe music of the turning world so soon would it be goneA muffled soft explosion and the room began to quakeThe soldier blown across the floor his blood a crimson lakeThere was no time to cry or shout there was no time to moanAnd they turned their children's faces from the blood and from the bonesThe crowd outside soon gathered and the ambulances cameTo carry off the body of a pawn lost in the gameAnd the crowd they clapped and cheered and they sang their rebel songOne soldier less to interfere where he did not belongAnd will the children growing up learn at their mothers' kneesThe story of the soldier who bought their libertyWho used his youthful body as a means towards an endWho gave his life to those who called him murderer not friend

Israel's failure to learn
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 01:00:20 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennes

When George Bush, the US president, first entered the White House as the commander-in-chief in 2001, Palestinians were being killed in the al-Aqsa intifada.Eight years later, as Bush prepares to leave office, Israel is carrying out one of the largest massacres in its 60-year occupation of Palestine. The US, then and now, strongly backs Israel's offensive, justifying it as being, in fact, defensive. An Israeli general recently threatened to use military force to set Gaza back decades in much the same language used before the invasion of Lebanon in 2006. But despite the Israeli devastation of Lebanon, Hezbollah emerged victorious and the Shia resistance and social movement emerged a hero to the Arab world.Israel is about to make the same mistake with Hamas. Its notion of a truce with Hamas was that the Palestinians would quietly accept the siege. Israel would deny them the basic means of survival, let alone the basic means to create a functioning society. If the Palestinians attempted to resist, they would be crushed. As in Lebanon, Israel should have learned years ago that military might cannot crush Palestinian resistance movements. While the Israeli military again bombs the starving and imprisoned population of 1.5 million Gazans, the world watches their plight live as Western media scrambles to explain and, in some cases, justify the ongoing carnage.Even some Arab outlets have attempted to equate Palestinian resistance - and homemade rockets - with the might of the Israeli military machine. However, none of this is a surprise; the Israelis just concluded a global public relations campaign to gather support for their assault, even gaining the collaboration of some Arab states. An American periodical once asked me to contribute to a discussion on whether terrorism or attacks against civilians could ever be justified. My answer was that an American journal should not be asking whether attacks on civilians can ever be justified. This is a question for the weak, such as the Native Americans 150 years ago, the Jews in Nazi Germany, and the Palestinians today, to answer.Terrorism is a normative term which is used to describe what the 'other' does, not what 'we' do.Powerful nations such as Israel, the US, Russia or China will always describe their victims' struggle as terrorism. However, they fail to acknowledge as acts of terror the destruction of Chechnya, the slow slaughter of the remaining Palestinians, the repression of Tibetans, and the US occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.Normativ e rules and what is legal and permissible are determined by the powerful. They formulate the concept of terrorism in normative terms and make it appear as if a neutral court derived such definitions instead of the oppressors. For the weak to resist becomes illegal by definition. This excessive use of legal jargon actually undermines the fundamentals of what is truly legal and diminishes the credibility of international institutions such as the UN. The law becomes the enemy of those who struggle. It becomes apparent that the powerful - those who make the rules - insist on legality merely to preserve the power relations that serve them or to maintain their occupation and colonialism. In 1948, when Israel was being established as a new state, 750,000 Palestinians were deliberately cleansed and expelled from their homes, and hundreds of their villages were destroyed.Their lands were settled by colonists who even today deny their very existence and wage a 60-year war against the remaining natives and the national liberation movements the Palestinians established around the world.Israel, its allies in the West and some regional Arab countries have managed to corrupt the leadership of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) and entice them with the promise of power at the expense of liberty for their people. This eventually neutralised and transformed the PLO into a liberation movement which collaborates with the occupier. The focus then shifted to Hamas, a movement which won legislative elections nearly three years ago and thus became a target for the Israelis.By enforcing an embargo and allowing Israel's siege of Gaza, the world has effectively told the Palestinians that they are unfit for democracy.

Bailey: Stylistic
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 23:31:39 -0800 by rob251150

Darren 'Daz' Bailey from Nantwich (south Cheshire) is djing since 1995 and started producing and remixing in 2007. What a shame - looks like we've missed a bunch of good tracks over the years, only because this guy didn't shake his leg a bit earlier! His current single 'Inspiral' gets a lot of airplay by the likes of Judge Jules (BBC Radio 1) or Neil Moore (BFBS) and is supported by dj's all over the world. It will soon be followed by 'Shimmer', scheduled for release in January 2009. Watch it here on YouTube, too - especially the Radio Edit, coming along with a VERY funny video (-; ...'Stylistic' will be released in early 2009 (I'll add some download links etc. to this section as soon as they are available), and you will hear it on radio and in your local clubs in a very short time.If you get a lousy (mono-)sound due to low bandwidth and can't see the "Watch in high quality"-link: add&fmt=18to the end of the path on top of your browser, hit "Enter", wait for the reload, then push the pause-button and have some patience until the vid has made it as a temporary file to your HDD. Or memory. Or whatsoever...

UN :resolution passes Security - Council calls for cease-fire in Gaza

???? ???? ????? ?????? ?? ????? ??? ????? ??? ????? ???? ????? ??????? ???? ??? ??? ????? ????? ?? ???? ???? ?????? ??????? ?????? ??????????? ???. ???? ??????? ???? ??????? ???????? -??? ?? ????? ????? ??????? ??? ????? ???? ?? ????? ???????- ??????? 14 ?? ????? ???? ????? ???? ?????? ???????? ??????? ?? ??????? ????. The U.N. Security Council late Thursday overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. Fourteen of the council's 15 members voted in favor of the resolution, with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice abstaining from the vote on behalf of the United States. The resolution expresses "grave concern" about the growing humanitarian crisis and heavy civilian casualties in Gaza, as well as civilian deaths in Israel from Hamas rocket fire.Roughly 765 Palestinians and 13 Israelis, including 10 soldiers, have been killed since Israel began its military assault on Gaza on December 27. The resolution "stresses the urgency of, and calls for, an immediate, durable, and fully respected cease-fire which will lead to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza."A resolution from the council, particularly one that passes with such large support, can put international pressure on parties involved in a conflict. But they are in no way binding, and many in the past have been ignored by warring factions. "We are all very conscious that peace is made on the ground while resolutions are written in the U.N.," said British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. "Our job here is to support the efforts for peace on the ground and turn the good words on paper into changes on the ground that are so desperately needed."Rice applauded the resolution's goals, but said the United States prefers to wait for results of ongoing, Egyptian-brokered talks in Cairo, Egypt, with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. She said the United States supported the text, goals and objectives of the resolution, but that the United States feels it's important to see the terms of any cease-fire hammered out in Egypt. The resolution welcomes efforts by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to broker a cease-fire. It calls for opening corridors to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza -- where food, water, electricity and medicine shortages have worsened already poor conditions since Israel's offensive in Gaza began.Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Gabriela Shalev, told the Security Council that Hamas rocket attacks "left us with no choice.""The responsibility for the current hostilities lies squarely on Hamas," she said. "The international community must focus its efforts on the Hamas activity and make sure that the terrorist activity can never be legitimate." The Israeli military says its operation is aimed at halting the firing of rockets into southern Israel by Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2007.Wrangling over the resolution centered on wording. Arab countries generally pushed for language demanding Israel cease its attacks, while Western diplomats wanted more neutral language."Security for the people of Gaza, too. Not security for Israel alone," Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, of Egypt, said before the vote as reporters were asking diplomats about the resolution. The 15-member Security Council is tasked by the United Nations with establishing and maintaining peace around the globe. It has the power to create peacekeeping operations, impose sanctions and authorize military action. The United States, Russia, China, France and Great Britain are the five permanent members, with the other 10 elected by the U.N. assembly to two-year terms. Any one of the permanent members can veto a resolution.

8/11/2008 - A Miraculous Rescue of a Soul Reclaimed. Tim Burns - PART 2
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 22:58:49 -0800 by gregtl1967

8/11/2008 - A Miraculous Rescue of a Soul Reclaimed. Tim Burns -Tim Burns life began in a tragic and unique way. His parents moved the family to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to keep the children safe from the streets of Boston. That only worked for a while. Pain and heartache found their way into his life no matter where he lived. And that Tim lived through it is the miracle here. The life and times of Tim Burns as shared in his own words, tells how one man survived growing up in spite of his beginnings. He tells a tale of what it was like to be submerged in a life of tragedy and find his way back to his own soul. -His family on Cape Cod came from the classic New England, Irish Catholic ancestors. The parents of this free spirited man were hard-working people from Boston. His fathers family was one of prosperous society people who fell into near destitute conditions. His mother grew up in a small city outside of Boston. Even Tims birth was traumatic. His parents married three days after he was born. A nurse at the hospital, opposed to the union, called the police. Burns life began with police intervention and it would set the tone for the pattern his life would follow for the next 25 years, including turning twenty-one in prison.Life took a turn towards Hollywood for the man that would "Party Like A Rock Star." Drug deals, strip clubs, thoughts of murder, all of these were parts of the lifestyle Burns lived to tell about. Drug overdoses, trips to jail, living the "Dream" of a multimillion-dollar business and having a "HIT" put out on him all contributed to that light bulb going off over his head. "I could see that this career track was a no-win situation," says Tim Burns in his memoirs. This was the beginning of the decision to stop dealing dope.Today there is another mission in Burns life, one that is centered in the Catholic Church. In 2006, Burns and his wife launched an organization called Fallen Back Catholic Apostolate, Inc. Part of the dream now of this tough, street-life weathered survivor is to share his story with the world. If one person hears the message of despair turned into hope and pain turned into peace, then Tim Burns has succeeded with his plan to help others understand the turmoil in their lives can be replaced with signs and wonders of profound spiritual encounters. This book is not an end for A Boy From Cape Cod. Instead it is the beginning of a miraculous rescue of souls reclaimed.Tim Burns is available for interviews, speaking engagements and public appearances. U S abstains from Voting for resolution
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 22:54:34 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennes

The UN Security Council has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza that Arab nations hope will put an end to Israel's 14-day assault on the territory. The resolution, passed by the 15-member body on Thursday with 14 votes in favour and only the US abstaining, "stresses the urgency of and calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza".The resolution also called for arrangements in Gaza to prevent arms smuggling to Palestinian fighters and reopen border crossings. It said there should be "unimpeded provision" and distribution of aid to the territory, where more than 770 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its offensive.Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, said he was "heartened and relieved" by the passing of the resolution. The UN chief, who will visit the Middle East next week for talks on the crisis, said the UN "stands ready" and that a ceasefire would be a "first step", but that "a political way forward is required to deliver long-term security and peace".The text was the product of days of tortuous negotiations between top diplomats from the United States, Britain and France and Arab states.Arab countries, many facing strong anti-Israeli sentiment at home, insisted the Security Council must issue a binding resolution that would force Israel to end its military campaign in the Gaza Strip immediately. Israel had opposed the idea of a binding UN resolution. The United States had backed its ally Israel but diplomats said it dropped its objections and agreed to go along with a cautiously worded text. The US abstained from voting for the resolution, but Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, said the United States supported the contents of the resolution. "The United States thought it important to see the outcomes of the Egyptian mediation efforts in order to see what this resolution might have been supporting," she said. Riyad al Maliki, the Palestinian foreign minister, sounded sceptical after the passage of the resolution and said it might not bring about an immediate end to the violence in Gaza.He said it would be naive to expect that Israel would implement the ceasefire call immediately. He said he feared that the Israelis would expand their Gaza offensive in the next few days, to hit more targets before any truce comes into effect."I do believe that we will witness in the next two days vicious attacks against the Palestinian people and more Palestinians being killed even after such resolution has been passed," al Maliki said.Al Jazeera's Ghida Fakhry, reporting from the UN, said the resolution was only a partial victory for Arab leaders, who succeeded in pushing through a resolution when the US and other nations were keener on issuing a non-binding "presidential statement".

Egyptian police hits a member hamas ???? ?????? ????? ??? ????? ?? ????
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 22:38:32 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennes

Egyptian police hits a member hamas while making a statement to pressCNN's Karl Penhaul reports on the chaos at the Gaza-Egypt border, as ambulances try to get patients to The International Committee of the Red Cross called on Israel to allow it immediate access to Gaza, saying a trip into Gaza City revealed weak children laying with their dead mothers and other "shocking" scenes. Red Cross workers and four ambulances from the Palestine Red Crescent Society managed to enter the Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza City on Wednesday, according to a written release. The crew found four children, too weak to stand, next to their dead mothers in a house containing 12 corpses, the statement says.Other houses revealed more wounded and three more corpses, the release said. It said Israeli soldiers posted near the houses ordered the rescue team to leave the area -- an order the team refused."This is a shocking incident," said Pierre Wettach, the ICRC's chief official for Israel and the Palestinian territories. "The Israeli military must have been aware of the situation but did not assist the wounded. Neither did they make it possible for us or the Palestine Red Crescent to assist the wounded." A spokesman for Israel's military said early Thursday that the Red Cross's news release was the first he had heard of the alleged incident. Speaking after midnight, the spokesman said he was unsure if Israel has received a formal request to investigate."We do make every effort and our soldiers do put themselves at risk" to help wounded civilians, the spokesman told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. The Red Cross release said the children and other wounded were taken to ambulances in a donkey cart because earth walls erected by Israeli soldiers made it impossible for the ambulances to reach their neighborhood It said the group was told more wounded people were in the neighborhood, and demanded that Israel grant it and the Red Crescent immediate access and safe passage to search for them. The Israeli spokesman said the military has established a 24-hour liaison to maintain contacts with humanitarian organizations. The Israeli military operation in Gaza has killed at least 680 people and injured more than 3,000 since it launched December 27, Palestinian medical sources said Wednesday. Thirty percent of the deaths are women and children, according to the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing statistics released Tuesday by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.advertisement Seven Israeli soldiers and three civilians have been killed since the operation, the Israeli military reported.Israel says the purpose of the operation is to stop Hamas militants from firing rockets from Gaza into southern Israel.
