| Allen Iverson 48pts 8asts 7rebs vs Okafor Bobcats 04/05 NBA *one man showWed, 07 Jan 2009 07:12:21 -0800 by pennyccwThe Philadelphia 76ers would rather not rely so heavily on Allen Iverson. They certainly can't complain about the results, though.Iverson scored 48 points and the 76ers gained ground in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 106-103 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night.Iverson had 30 in the first half to help the Sixers (37-37) take a 25-point lead, which was sliced all the way to one late in the fourth quarter. It was the second straight game the Sixers let a huge lead slip away, blowing a 26-point lead against Boston before holding on for a four-point win.Certainly, the eighth spot is Philly's to lose over the final eight games. The Sixers have won six of 10 and are 11-8 since March 1 to build a game and a half lead over New Jersey and a 2½-game cushion on Orlando.Chris Webber missed his third straight game with a sprained left shoulder."When Chris is not on the court, it puts way too much on Allen's shoulders," said Sixers coach Jim O'Brien.Kyle Korver finished with 11 points and Andre Iguodala had 11 rebounds for the Sixers.Cleveland's 98-77 loss to Indiana on Wednesday night pulled the Sixers to one game of the Cavaliers for the seventh spot. The Cavs play at Philadelphia on Friday and are 0-2 this year against the Sixers. The Sixers are 3½ games behind first-place Boston in the Atlantic Division."The next game, that's the one we have to have," Iverson said. "If we approach everything that way, than everything will take care of itself. The feisty Bobcats were a little too late in turning the game around and lost their sixth straight.Cory Alexander sank two free throws that made it 104-103 with 33 seconds left, but Gerald Wallace mishandled the ball and it bounced out of bounds on Charlotte's last possession."We would like to just completely put a team away," said Korver. "But there's something to be said about us winning both games. They do come back on us, we feel the pressure a little bit, but still we win."Korver sank a couple of free throws for Philadelphia and clinched a win that probably shouldn't have been so close."It seems like every game we just can't finish," said Primoz Brezec, who led the Bobcats with 23 points. The Bobcats had their chances for an improbable victory in the final minutes.Emeka Okafor's layup and turnaround jumper cut Philadelphia's lead to 102-99. Iguodala hit two free throws for a five-point lead, but Primoz Brezec stepped out for a 17-foot baseline jumper that made it 104-101.Iverson's attempt for 50 points on a driving layup hit off the front of the rim and Samuel Dalembert's ill-advised putback in traffic was an airball. With a chance to go-ahead, Wallace started to drive and the ball seemed to bounce off his sneaker."Wallace had a layup, but he just lost the ball," said Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff.Alexande r had 17 points and Keith Bogans 16 for the Bobcats, who were coming off a 104-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night.Iverson came as close as he could in the first half to matching his league-leading scoring average of 30.4 points. Iverson was sensational, making 10 of 15 baskets and 10 of 11 free throws. His only weakness came from the 3-point line where he missed all four attempts.Iverson finished 17-for-31 and went 13-for-14 from the line. He had a career-high 60 points in a win over Orlando on Feb. 12 and reached the 40 mark for the eighth time this year. The Sixers used 17-0 run late in the second quarter to race to a 62-37 lead. They led 66-47 at halftime, scoring a season-high for points in a half.Game notesBrezec got in Iguodala's face late in the second quarter and was whistled for a technical foul. Brevin Knight and Bickerstaff also was hit with a T in the first half. Knight got another technical in the fourth and was ejected. Okafor got one soon after ... Iverson has scored 50 points three times this season and has 58 career games with 40 or more points. | Allen Iverson 19pts vs Tim Duncan Spurs 08/09 NBASun, 04 Jan 2009 21:21:56 -0800 by pennyccwRasheed Wallace showed he knows how to use a technical foul call as motivation.Wallace made three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and scored 17 points in the final 15 minutes after picking up a technical, and the Detroit Pistons rallied from 10 points down to beat San Antonio 89-77 on Tuesday night despite the return of Manu Ginobili to the Spurs' starting lineup."After the tech, he kind of took matters in his own hands, started being a lot more aggressive," Allen Iverson said. "It paid dividends for us."But scoring wasn't the first thing on Wallace's mind in the second half. He was more concerned with how the game was being officiated -- tipping toward the Spurs, he thought."I knew what it was going to be out there, and I didn't want our team to fall into that," Wallace said. "We knew how it was going to be, especially going against the league darlings."Wallace finished with 19 points and Iverson also scored 19 for Detroit (11-6), which has won two of three. Richard Hamilton added 16 points and Tayshaun Prince scored 15.Rodney Stuckey came off the bench to score 10 points and had seven assists. The Spurs (9-8) have dropped two straight after winning four in a row. They were led by Tim Duncan, who had 23 points, but just one point in the fourth quarter. He wasn't the only one to have a letdown in the fourth quarter. San Antonio went 5-of-15 from the floor, and the Pistons converted the Spurs' six turnovers into 10 points."The most disturbing thing is that we were very soft," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I think Detroit intimidated us. It was really sad to watch in that respect. I thought we totally folded to their aggressive play."Ginobili scored 13 in his first start of the season after missing the first 12 games because of offseason ankle surgery. But he was 4-of-11 from the floor -- 1-of-4 in the fourth quarter."Ginobili is tough to guard," Pistons coach Michael Curry said. "We played him tough and gave ourselves a chance to win."The Pistons, who trailed by 10 twice in the third quarter, finally pulled ahead when Wallace hit a 3-pointer almost four minutes into the fourth quarter. Wallace hit two more 3s in the fourth quarter as Detroit outscored the Spurs 28-14."We should have played that hard from the gate," Wallace said. "We wouldn't have been in that deficit. We're a resilient young team. Guys knuckled up in that second half."Iverson trimmed the Spurs' 50-40 lead early in the third quarter down to 52-50 on a layup with 7:18 remaining in the period. But San Antonio scored eight straight, capped by Bruce Bowen's 3-pointer with 3:14 left in the third, to go ahead 60-50 with 3:14 left in the third quarter.Iverson's 3-pointer cut the Spurs' lead to one point, but Ginobili quickly hit his own 3-pointer. San Antonio clung to a 63-61 lead heading into the fourth quarter. After starting the game 4-of-5 for a two-point lead, the Pistons went 1-of-7 during the next 5:22 and the Spurs held their largest lead of the first quarter at 16-10.Iverson, who played the entire opening quarter for seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, got Detroit back on track with a 3-pointer to cut San Antonio's lead to 16-13 with 3:42 to go. But the Spurs led by five heading into the second quarter.San Antonio led by as many as seven points in the second quarter before the Pistons scored 12 consecutive points during a stretch of 3:28. The run consisted of a pair of free throws and five straight layups. The last two were slam dunks by Jason Maxiell that gave Detroit a 31-26 lead with 7:10 left in the first half. The Pistons shot 50 percent from the floor and were 6-of-11 from the 3-point line compared to the Spurs' 6-of-24. San Antonio shot 39 percent from the floor.Game notesHamilton tied John Long (1978-91) for eighth place on the Pistons' all-time scoring list. ... Matt Bonner started his fourth game of the season for the Spurs on Tuesday, but it was his first since the fourth game of the season on Nov. 5. ... The Pistons are 5-2 against the Spurs since losing the '05 Finals in a seven-game series. | Allen Iverson's Game Winner vs Kevin Durant the Thunders 08/09 NBASat, 27 Dec 2008 02:49:46 -0800 by pennyccwAllen Iverson kept the ball this time.A week after passing up a chance at a winning shot against the Utah Jazz, Iverson hit an off-balance runner with 0.2 seconds left to give the Detroit Pistons a 90-88 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night. The play was for me to run the clock down and try to get to the basket, he said. There wasnt much time for me to create anything else.Last Friday, Iverson passed the ball to Rodney Stuckey, who missed a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime, and Utah went on to win.Having already scored a dozen points in the fourth quarter on Friday, Iverson took things in his own hands. That was a great play by Allen, Pistons coach Michael Curry said. He hadnt had much going for him in the first three quarters, but then he took over the game.Detroit have taken eight straight against the Thunder, and havent lost to the franchise at home since the former Seattle SuperSonics won 93-72 on Dec. 12, 2003. The Pistons didnt have an easy time Friday, though, as they struggled to beat Oklahoma City (3-27).Were a young team that is still learning how to finish games, and they are a great team that knows how to do that, Chris Wilcox said. A.I. had a terrific fourth quarter, and we just didnt have an answer for him.Thats been the story of the Pistons season. They have wins over the Lakers and Cavaliers, but have lost to the hapless Wizards and Timberwolves. We keep having lapses, Iverson said. This team only has three wins, so they are going to be hungry, but we have beaten two of the best teams in the league and lost to two of the worst. It almost happened again Friday, even after Iversons off-balance jumper. Jeff Green nearly tipped in a halfcourt alley-oop, but the ball bounced twice off the rim before falling harmlessly away.It was a good look, and Jeff is one of our better leapers, Oklahoma city coach Scott Brooks said. It just slipped out of his hands. Its unfortunate, because it would have been a great overtime.Iverson led the Pistons with 22 points, and Tayshaun Prince added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Durant had 26 points and eight rebounds for the Thunder. The Pistons looked sluggish for most of the first three quarters. Oklahoma City shot 39 percent through three periods, but trailed only 66-63 heading into the fourth.Detroit took advantage of two turnovers by the Thunder in the first minute of the final period to expand its lead to 70-63.The Pistons were up 14 midway through the fourth, but an 11-0 run pulled Oklahoma City to 84-81 with 2 minutes left.Iverson then threw the ball away, and Durants jumper made it a one-point game with 1:33 left. Rodney Stuckey answered with a driving layup, but Iverson fouled Russell Westbrook, and the rookie split the free throws to make it 86-84.Stuckey then shot an airball, and the Thunder called timeout with 54 seconds left. Durant beat Prince for the tying layup, but Stuckey found Antonio McDyess for an open layup with 27.2 seconds to go.Joe Smith made it 88-all with a 20-footer?the eighth straight shot made by Oklahoma City. Iverson ran the clock down to 5 seconds before heading for the basket and throwing in a runner while surrounded by defenders. The best feeling is when you are having a quiet game, and you arent doing much on the offensive end, and then your coach and teammates still trust you with that last shot, he said. Its easy when youve already scored 30 or 40 points. | Allen Iverson highlights vs Bucks 08/09 NBA *Missed Practice Coming off the bench *Crossover on LueSun, 14 Dec 2008 12:53:18 -0800 by pennyccwOne day after a missed practice landed him on the Detroit Pistons' bench, Allen Iverson spoke loudly with his play Friday night.Once he got the chance.Coming off the bench for the first time as a Piston, Iverson scored 17 points and led Detroit to a 107-97 victory over the slumping Milwaukee Bucks."With everything going on, I wanted to play well," Iverson said. "I just wanted to play well. Especially for my teammates because I let them down by not being here."Iverson was benched by Pistons coach Michael Curry to begin the game, punishment for missing a mandatory team practice on Thanksgiving. He apologized Friday morning, then sat on the bench for almost 10 minutes as Rodney Stuckey started instead. One spectator held up a sign that read, "practice."Curry said the matter was closed."I just wanted to make up for it with my play," said Iverson, who hadn't come off the bench since Dec. 22, 2006, the night of his first game with the Denver Nuggets.Richard Jefferson and Ramon Sessions each scored 21 points for the Bucks, who lost their third consecutive game and trailed by as many as 15 points. Milwaukee center Dan Gadzuric, starting in place of the injured Andrew Bogut, had 12 rebounds.Stuckey responded to his third start this season by scoring seven points in the first seven minutes. He finished with 12 points, a career-high four steals and five assists in 23 minutes."I've been in this situation so many times. Nothing's difficult. I'm always ready to be thrown in the fire," Stuckey said.Stuckey played so solidly that Iverson wondered if he'd ever get in."He was fast. There was a chance I might not play at all," Iverson said.Until being inserted into the lineup by Curry with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter, Iverson was a cheerleader on the bench. During timeouts, he was the first one onto the court to slap the hands of Pistons players running toward the bench.Iverson made a quick impact when he did get in. He scored his first basket just 39 seconds after he entered the game, led the Pistons with 10 points at halftime and hit three baskets within a two-minute period in the fourth quarter that put away the Bucks."I thought he would come in and want to play well," Curry said. "He wants to do well. And he will. We want him to be aggressive, and he was aggressive."Walter Herrmann added 16 points and Jason Maxiell had 13 for the Pistons, who shot nearly 50 percent in the first half, making 20 of 41. The Bucks (7-11) trailed for more than 40 minutes."For whatever reason, particularly in the last three games, we've lost a bit of our will to defend," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "I'm having a hard time finding lineups that are willing to go out there and try and defend."Game notesBogut missed his second consecutive game due to a bone bruise in his left knee. He is averaging 11.4 points and 10.9 rebounds. Also out for the Bucks was guard Michael Redd (right ankle sprain) and they lost Charlie Villaneuva to a left hamstring strain in the fourth quarter. ... The Pistons are 3-0 when Stuckey starts. ... The game finished off a four-game road trip for the Bucks in which they lost three times. Their 12 road games (4-8 record) are the most for any team in the NBA. ... Prince started his 370th consecutive game, tops among active players.
