| Turkey for Indirect Israel-Syria Peace TalksFri, 09 Jan 2009 00:53:06 -0800 by TheLeadersOfTheWorldStuck between the difficulty in balancing history and religion.*Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with Turkish premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the indirect talks that Turkey is mediating between the Jewish state and Syria. On his short visit to the Turkish capital, Olmert was expected to thank Turkey for its efforts to work out an eventual peace between the two neighbouring nations, which have been in a state of war since 1948, according to a diplomatic source. In a related development Erdogan told Hamas that he would ask Olmert to lift the blockade of Gaza, a spokesman for the Islamist movement said. After Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan flew to Syria, a Turkish diplomatic source affirmed that the indirect peace talks between Syria and Israel have been suspended indefinitely due to Israel's continuing bombardment of the Gaza Strip. Echoing comments by Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, a Turkish diplomatic source in Lebanon told The Daily Star that under the current circumstances continuing with the talks was "not possible." "Israel's policy to go to war with the Palestinians while talking about peace with the Syrians is very disappointing," the diplomatic source said, adding that "it will be difficult to continue from this point on." Babacan first expressed his disappointment after a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmad Abu al-Gheit, in Ankara, saying that given the continued attacks in Gaza indirect peace talks were impossible. Turkey's role as mediator in Syrian-Israeli peace talks was revealed in May, but the talks, centered on a transfer of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, are rumored to have sputtered since Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced his decision to resign this summer. Both Turkey and Egypt have played leading mediating roles in the Middle East in recent years, but the countries' responses to the crisis have been markedly different.?????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ????????
