Just a shell of it's former life now. Not much left anymore... These are photos of what's left of the Roundhouse, & turntable, along with the rest of the Calais Branch main line. The Winter pictures in the 1st segment were taken by yours truly last Winter (early 2008), & the Autumn pics in the last half of the video were taken by my Father on his journey down the remainder of the ROW from Ayers Jct. to Dennysville in October, 2008. Guilford/Pan Am stil uses the Woodland spur from Salmon Falls, to Woodland pulp mill yard. The rest is gone, all the way from ayers Jct. in Charlotte, Maine, to Washington junction in Ellsworth, Maine. Why, Guilford? What was Timothy Melon thinking?

N scale 16' X 18' layout. 3 trains running, 3 levels, & 3 towns. This layout is getting huge. My Dad laid all the track, & carpentry work for the tables. The last train in the video was about 7 feet long with 5 engines pulling 29 cars, & a caboose. That's a pretty big train for N scale. The scenes in this video are only about 32 (actual) hours worth of work total, between both of us working on it randomly.

Impersonating a smokey Alco, Pan Am/ MEC GP40 # 347 switches out in the Brunswick yard, & then un-couples to turn the unit around on the wye, & grab the full cars staged at the junction. Part 2 shows the empty BIW flatcars, & full cement hopper cars crossing Stanwood St. being hauled down to to Rigby yard.

Broken down! B&M GP40, "Triple 3" broken down on the Wye at Brunswick junction. B&M #333 had a bad reverser relay, so she would only go in reverse until the mechanics arrived from Waterville to repair her. The on-coming relief crew was in for a long night! (Psst), I filmed just about every inch of her just for all you fellow "foamers", & scale model train enthusiasts out there. Maine Central Railroad. Calais Branch -"Ghost branch"

Thanks Guilford, especially Mr. Mellon for ruining a once thriving branch line. This line was heavily used for freight operations up to the mid 1980's, & once used for passenger operations up until the late 50's. Not that it's historical or anything, being that it's the oldest railroad in Maine (back to the 1800's). The pictures of most of the engines (565, & 571) were taken during the final 10 years of operation on this line. This burns me up what Guilford did to put this line out of business for good. Lack of proper maintenance finally killed it in 1987, when it became too un-safe to run trains on it reliably anymore. I remember when the very engines in the pictures on this video ran the line, & my grandfather, & I would chase/watch them as they went through Moosehorn out the Charlotte Rd. Farewell old friend.... The only thing left is the Woodland spur, & the DSRR portion in Ellsworth. Watch in high quality mode for best results. This is something a little different. I figured I'd change things up abit. Sorry it's a little dark in some spots, but that was the best my camera could do considering the low light situation. Spooky dark & foggy in some spots, & kinda set the mood for a Fall evening around Halloween. Boo! It was better in person, but this video is still decent enough to post on here. Let me know what you think. My body is still "phantom swaying" (equilibrium) from all that rocking back & forth. I spent almost all day on that train! I took the last train back up to Rockland tonight just for all you fellow rail fans out there; So, I hope this video is worthy enough of keeping on here...(?)LOL. Perfect day to go down to Brunswick junction & watch the RB-3 train turn around on the Wye, become the BR-4 train, & head back to Rockland. There's a new car from the New Jersey based parent company, Morristown & Erie in the consist. I think it's too modern, & looks silly on there, but you be the judge.

Maine Central Railroad GP40 #321 switching in the yard

My father took this footage last week down in the yard at Salmon Falls outside Calais, Maine, & I made it into a mini-movie for everyone to check out. The crew went to lunch after re-spotting the loco. After lunch, they set out for the Woodland paper mill. The Woodland/Baileyville spur is the only portion of the Calais branch still in service today on the east side of the branch. Downeast Scenic Railroad is restoring a 35 mile portion on the west end of the branch in Ellsworth, and plans to have excursion trains running by the middle - end of Summer 2009. The rest from Washington Jct. - Ayers Jct. has recently had the rails ripped up. Comments are welcome. Please let him know how he did by leaving a comment. I hope everyone enjoys this. A rainy night shot of the Maine Eastern railroad BR-4 crossing Dragon cement private crossing, behind the Fat Boy drive-in. No signals here. Last train of the day. It was running about 15 minutes behind schedule for some reason. It's dark, but it's a really cool light show from the FL9 strobes, & ditch lights. Mosquitoes were brutal, & you will probably hear me swatting them away. That's the main reason for the shaking in some spots. I tried to edit most of it out though. Thanks for watching!

My father & I spent the last official remaining moments of Summer at the Northern Maine Junction rail yard taking videos, & pictures of the yard, & all the cool stuff kicking around.
