I saw this author in a documentary about conspiracy theories & their followers. Basically his gist was that conspiracy theorists love a narrative, and they have a need to apply a "story" to every event to explain it away as a conspiracy.

This argument is flawed simply because EVERYONE loves a story. The difference is most people accept the official story that's sold to them by a so-called "authority", and conspiracy theorists attempt to look beyond the public reality that's fed to them because (& most people would agree with this), the "official" source cannot be trusted, especially if there was something to gain from the lie.

Most of us would rather accept the official "story", because anything more would require too much emotional & psychological investment. Most of us with jobs & families don't have the time & effort to invest, so the theorists tend to be people with a lot of time on their hands, who aren't viewed favorably by our society to begin with, so the cards are already stacked against them in that sense, and they are marginalized & relegated to "crazy" status by the pundits & disinformation agents shilling for the elite, which is business as usual. Ask anyone who works for our, or any government around the world.

The problem is that conspiracy theories are just that, theories. For the most part, they are NEVER proven to be true. The names of the people behind them are never revealed, and most likely never will be, because there's too much at stake & too much invested in the lie to allow it to be.

REAL conspiracies do, and have occurred throughout history, and have been proven and admitted, sometimes even by our own corporate media: WMD's being a perfect example, of an "exposed" conspiracy. Although 30% of the public still believes they existed, so the lie was pretty effective, being that it was repeated over & over throughout the P.R./Wag The Dog campaign that was behind it.

This book is just another tool for mis & dis-information agents to use on info-tainment news networks, to further deceive the public and marginalize those who prefer dealing with objective reality.

The fundamental issue at hand is, who owns the truth?, and does that same someone get to sell us the lie instead?

All the rest of us seem to have is conjecture & speculation on the former.

"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and unrealistic."
--JFK

"To be believed, make the truth unbelievable."
--Napoleon

"Truth is whatever you can get other people to believe."
--Tom Smothers

"They must find it difficult...those who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority."
--Gerald Massey

"It is man's natural sickness to believe that he possesses the Truth."
--Blaise Pascal

"Truth never damages a cause that is just."
"When I despair, I remember that all throughout history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they may seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it, always."
This is a great book if you are a psychology major, looking for an excuse not to read any more non-fiction, due to lack of time and a preference for romance, anyways. For anyone else, I suggest Kleenex. After spending the day reading this book I am stunned. I did not think there could actually be frontier to the Superficial but I have now reached the Zip Code of No There.

This book lumps real conspiracies, such as that of JFK, with obvious frauds produced by the fluff machines of official disinformation. It is a high-school level baby with bathwater operation, that never sullies itself with evidence or argument, but remains in the realm of psychobabble (ie need for closure at infin., infirm reliance on simple narrative cause by neglect from mummy etc...) With psychobabble- cliches this tired one almost longs for the bracing airs of Siberia where at least the Soviet dissenters were treated with a few hyphenated diagnoses. The JFK assassination is a five page screed of namecalling and citations of ballistics studies that have long been refuted in by scholarly publications published by academic presses. Of these five pages much is devoted to comedians jokes about the sundry absurd theories of the assassination. These jokes are about the hardest evidence the author can come up with to convict Oswald. Then its on to the wacky anti-semites and their ProtocolShadow Play: The Untold Story of the Robert F. Kennedy Assassinations. of the Elders of Hopscotch. Baby and bathwater. Just type "conspiracy theory, " and you can trust your government boys and girls.

I suggest a real book. It is not a history of the Bush Family, for it makes no pretense to such finality. The book is better seen as real journalism, and as you will discover it is one of the first of its kind about this family, in spite of all that has been written. The book is Family of Secrets by Russ Baker. Baker has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Esquire and has edited for The Columbia Journalism Review. This book contains incredible new information about H.W. Bush in Dallas on the day of the JFK assassination, and the newly discovered role of H.W. Bush in a Watergate that is not your Woodward's. (See also the extremely provocative new book by Len Colodny on that topic, The Forty Years WarThe Forty Years War: The Rise and Fall of the Neocons, from Nixon to Obaa )

Baker writes the book in a somewhat unconventional style that mirrors his gradual coming to question the official Bush family narratives and fascination with new evidence and the directions that it leads. At first-- for example in his discussion of Both George and Barbaras very consciously constructed alibis designed to prove H.W. was NOT in Dallas on 11-22-63-- one might respond "well this IS very very curious, given that Poppy said he could not remember where he was on that day but still.... where's the heavy stuff."

By the time you have finished chapter 5, you will not be wondering anymore. This chapter is a tour de force that connects H.W. Bush to Oswalds #1 CIA handler George de Mohrenschildt, and so directly that you will need to epoxy your jaw. Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, America's Invisible Government, and the Hidden History of the Last Fifty Years The following question will be difficult: which is more stunning, the information itself, or the fact that you have never heard of it before, because the US media was busy describing how silly Michael Dukakis looked driving a tank. Oh but I did not mean to sully the reputation of Mr. Aaronoviche's Vigilant Press Corps. After all they are risking their lives every day reporting from the Afghan battlefields where teenagers have just bombed a hundred more civilians with Unmanned drones--using their joysticks in Teaneck.

A Stupid book, dumb and crooked as a Banker..., 4 May 2009
By H. Josson "bobby j" (UK) - See all my reviews

Imagine an alternate universe where Watergate got concealed and buried by Nixon, where the Suez Crisis never occured because Britain, France and Isreal effectively instigated a coup in Eygpt. Or where the CIA's assasinations of African, Middle-East and Latin American countries was never revealed (sometimes for business interests). Where the blotch of Iran-Comtra didn't exist, or the mining of a soveriegn nation's harbours never got the go ahead from Reagan. Where the complete and comprehensive treaty violations of the US Government against Native Americans never seeped past the myths created by film westerns. The list goes on indefinitely, from virtually any country - not just the US.

This is the type of universe that this book would like to create. A falsified, childs view of the world.

If history teaches us anything, it's that Conspiracy is the norm in all powerful collectives; oil and other monopolistic business cartels, corporations, the Mafia, governments, police forces, intelligence agencies. You name it...

What this terrible book does, is to take dodgy methods of thinking that are plain stupid and then tar all intelligent questioning on a given subject. It tries to create a narrative myth and then hopelessly tries to tie in its examples. An example is the 9/11 Scholars for Truth group of physicists, demolitions experts and engineers who question such things as the collapse of (1) THREE buildings, (2) at the speed of gravity, (3) into their own foot prints on September 11th 2001. Something that is against all the known physic laws of the universe. No one from the Government has been able to explain how the 3rd building (Building number 7) also collapsed that day. Instead, to discredit the credentials of these learned men who are trying to seek the truth, he sites one supposed engineer who is supposed to believe America is plotting to bomb Jupiter with antimatter weapons! That's like taking a party like the Tories os the Republicans, finding one of their 'lunatic fringe' and then tarring the whole lot rather than dealing with the prescient facts of their alternative theory. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Another instance is the linking of these various 'conspracies'. There is a world of difference between those who believe in UFOs and Roswell, or 'the Da Vinci Code', or that the Moon landings were faked or that Elvis is still alive, or that Princess Diana was murdered and the the REAL question marks over the Assasination of JFK.

The JFK killing was investigated by the Warren Commission, one of the most incompentent cover-ups in history, that soon started to unravel within a few years. And with the airing of the Zabruder film, was completely discredited (as the brains and head of the President shatter backwards- suggesting that the shots came from up ahead, rather than the book depository), so much so that even the Senate hearings of the mid '70s came to the conclusion that a second gun man was more than likely involved and from the famous grassy knoll.

The book is completely delusional, lazy and seems - for those with open minds towards it - to have an agenda. If you believe that any Government would never conspire to tell you lies or do no evil, such as both the US and British Governments exposing their soldiers to lethal levels of radiation and covering it up, or testing drugs on mental hospital patients, or telling us that Bankers were the salt of the Earth and the finace system safe, then this book is for you. A book made for people who still believe is fairy tales.

Its a dishonest book. Believe this agenda and you can no longer question the powers that be without being called a conspracy nut of the 'lunatic fringe' by the Fox News types. And without open debate and questioning, democracy dies a lot.

This is a book for losers, who'll tow the line, and follow blindly.
If it was offered to me for 1 cent, I'd feel over-charged. Don't waste your time, it will only end up in the car boot sale.

PS: If your do chose to buy it, get 'Who Shot JFK?' by Robin Ramsay, it can be picked up for a cent or two with 2.75 for postage. And the classic 'A People's History of the United States' by Howard Zinn, whilst an afternoon of goggle video will give you the three part BBC classic 'The Power of Nightmares', and the comprehensive 'The Men Who Killed Kennedy?'. '9/11 Demolitions' Asks pertinent questions. And if you really want to get to the truth of the matter, with a multitude fascinating detail - check out the six part 'Evidence of Revision', better than 10 Oscar winning movies.

I heard an interview of the author on NPR on the Radio Times program in which the author discussed the various topics of public madness based on conspiracy theories with the authority that only those who speak with an English accent can master. One of the topics covered in the book was the conspiracy against Jews perpetrated by anti-semites, past and present in order to perpetrate unspeakable genocide against Jews in the past as well as the perpetration of hatred against Jews in the present century by the known enemies of this minority group. The author, however, fails in realizing his perpetration of another conspiracy theory against a uniquely African belief system. The gratuitous use of a derogatory application of the term voodoo for all things trivial and nonsensical is an extension of the belief that nothing good can come out of a religious belief that is followed uniquely by people of African origin throughout the world. It is part of the perpetration of myths that is the root of conspiracies of all kinds. There is a certain kind of ignorance that is associated with both the creation and perpetration of conspiracy theories. The author of this book is part of this chain of conspiracy theory against things African. His purpose for creating this catchy title is aimed at ensuring the commercial success of his book at the expense of denigrating and extending an ignorant misunderstanding aimed at a racial minority who he believes do not matter in the grand scheme of selling his book. Why does a belief system which is different than the Judeo-Christian belief system or alternatively the religions of Asia are the only ones worthy of any respect, while the rest are tied to ignorance and stupidity. The author who was asked this question during the interview did not have a good answer. He must realize that the rather different approaches of voodoo and the satisfaction of the spiritual needs of a people are no more inferior than the belief systems based on concepts such as the monotheism of the West and the conviction of walking on water, and turning water into wine or the rediculous notion that the Israelites built the pyramids.

I listened to Mr. Aaronovitch being interviewed by Dennis Prager. The fact is; that the world is progressing towards a New World Order. The removal of the Bible, and the God we believe inspired it, is an integral part of this progression. People who support this progression call themselves Progressive. Unfortunately it is a progression to slavery, immorality and barbarianism. At the end of the hour the subject of Lucifer, and the people who worship him as god came up, the Illuminati. Prager don't believe that Lucifer is a sentient entity.
